ABSTRACT The umbilical cord constriction (UCC) is an uncommon condition and important etiology for stillborn fetuses. main goal of this study was to verify the UCC occurrence as cause intrauterine fetal death, associated its pathological characteristics. Therefore, a descriptive retrospective cross-sectional developed using database from Pathology Institute, in Brazil, 1995 2017. results presented total 1,359 embryo/fetus deaths – 69 (5.07%) due UCC, 60.9% males 39.1% females. average age pregnant women 27.5 years ± 7.2 standard deviation (SD). majority occurred during second trimester (76.5%), followed by first (14.7%) third (8.8%) trimesters, respectively. One alone found 87% cases, 11% had two constrictions only 1% three or more. presence congenital malformations detected 20.2% necropsies, identification chronic distress described 71% technical reports 17% cases obstructive vasculopathy characteristics microscopy analysis. Regarding anatomopathological between male female sexes, no significant difference (p > 0.05) correlating gestational age, weight malformations. death 5% it linked malformations, obliterative vasculopathy.
